The new Astra takes off - Opel lets its new model fly

The Opel Astra flies over the luxury class! No, the footage is not from a new blockbuster or US movie. It's the commercial for the new Opel Astra, which now offers the same features in the compact class as luxury cars from Audi, BMW and Mercedes.To illustrate the ambitious goals of the Rüsselsheim-based company, an experienced stuntman from the "Cobra 11" series was hired to jump over five (!!!) luxury cars with the new Opel Astra: the Volvo S80, Audi A8, Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series and the Jaguar XJ. Some would call the action a challenge to the other car manufacturers, but I think Opel simply wants to show where the brand wants to position itself in the future.

The stunt was performed under professional supervision at a speed of almost 80 km/h. The driver flies through the air in the new Opel Astra and lands unscathed on the opposite ramp. Although the car was reinforced for the stunt, no other aids or tricks were involved. Opel CEO Thoma Neumann says: "The new Astra is literally a high-flyer and a quantum leap." The new Opel Astra will be officially unveiled on September 17, 2015 at the IAA in Frankfurt.
