The Gel Kayano 14 represents a contemporary update of a retro silhouette that dates back to the late 2000s. This version of the shoe combines modern materials and technology while honoring the design roots of the sneaker line, which was first designed by Toshikazu Kayano. The shoe design retains the original midsole construction with gel technology cushioning. The upper has been adapted to current standards while retaining the tried and tested leather and mesh construction from 2008. A notable eco-friendly innovation is the production of the insole, which uses a solution dyeing process that reduces water consumption by 33 percent and CO₂ emissions by around 45 percent.
This version is characterized by an elegant colour scheme in Rusty Brown and Graphite Grey. Rusty Brown dominates the overall look of the shoe, while gray elements accentuate the edges, inner lining, heel counter and a section of the GEL-cushioned midsole. The design includes a hexagonal textile base enhanced by smooth leather applications, with brand presence on the inside, tongue and insole. The shoe is rounded off with a two-tone rubber sole in shades of grey for a polished look.
