adidas
Have you always wanted to know what exactly adidas means? We're here to help, because here in our exclusive sneaker lexicon we explain almost all the terms used in the sneaker scene.
adidas is a sports and lifestyle brand from Herzogenaurach in Bavaria. The brand with the three stripes was founded in 1949 by the brothers Adolf Dassler and Rudolf Dassler, who later fell out. As a result, Rudolf Dassler founded his brand Puma, which still competes with adidas today. The word "adidas" is the abbreviation of Adolf "Adi" Dassler in one word.
adidas is responsible for many classics such as the Superstar, the Stan Smith, the Samba and the EQT Support. The brand also works with major artists such as Beyoncé (Ivy Park), Bad Bunny and Sean Wotherspoon. The collaboration with Kanye West began in 2015, giving rise to the Yeezy brand. In 2023, adidas parted ways with Kanye West and Yeezy due to the rapper's anti-Semitic statements.
