Tongue / Split Tongue
The tongue is the tongue of the sneaker. It usually features a logo and a loop to prevent the laces from moving. The tongue can be attached to the sneaker at one end only, or it can be integrated into the upper. A distinction must also be made between a tongue and a split tongue.
In the past, models designed to be worn on playing fields often came with tongues that were attached to the side of the sole with two elastic bands. These were intended to provide additional stability and prevent the tongue from slipping. Over the years, ASICS then decided to bring the so-called split tongue onto the market. ASICS became very well known for this construction and is ultimately the only brand that works with this type of tongue.
